As another year draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the past 12 months with a smile on my face. This year has been eventful to say the least, with multiple trips back and forth from London to Dubai. And although all my luggage my not have made it through the year in tact, I’m still standing on the brink of 2012 with nothing but hope that this next year can be just as awesome!
I’m a huge shutterbug, so I’ve decided to share some of the pictures from this year to give you a taster into the life of a London girl who loves to get lost in Dubai’s desert.
What’s a year without your birthday? And this year was so special as I got to spend my birthday with my best friends in Dubai. Dinner at Okku followed by a night of partying with singers Raghav and Imran Khan at Elegante, courtesy of No.1 Events and then an impromptu karaoke session on our way home! Every birthday should be this memorable.
March ended with a wonderful day and night at the world famous Dubai World Cup. I was dressed by Aftershock in a gorgeous gown and even though my feet were throbbing come 3am, I went to bed with a huge smile on my face as I was chosen as a finalist as one of the best dressed at the World Cup by Tatler Magazine! I am still until this day so incredibly humbled.
“Seher are you coming to Armani Prive on Saturday?” It was a question that was put to me almost on a weekly basis and my answer, if I was in Dubai at the time, was a huge categorical “HELL YES!” One of the best nights had to be James Young’s birthday back in May. DJ Bliss and Mr Shef Codes provided the beats that kept me dancing all the way to the plane as I had a flight to catch straight after.
Contrary to belief, life isn’t one big party for me. But the benefits of being in PR and being a blogger is that I got invited to some incredible events this year. Having dinner and interviewing Roberto Cavalli and meeting Henry Holland are just some of the highlights of one incredible year!
Surprisingly, I learnt earlier this year I had been nominated for an award for “Women in International PR”. To this day, I am gobsmacked and genuinely wish to thank whoever put my name forward for consideration as a nominee. It was a great honour and although I didn’t win, the nomination itself made my year!
Okay yes we did party quite a fair bit this year! My personal highlights include partying with Afrojack in London and meeting Usher and finding out more about his style from his personal stylist and tour manager. I did try and pinch his sunglasses, but considering they were custom-made, he wouldn’t let me keep them!
Summer ended with a bang in a muddy field in Liverpool at the annual Creamfields festival. This was my first festival in the UK as I’m usually just a concert goer, but this is an experience I have to recommend to anyone who appreciates music. The atmosphere was electric and although I have never seen so much mud in my life, I wouldn’t have swapped this day for anything else! I just need to remember that sparkly Ugg boots and a Dior bag aren’t really what I should be wearing to Creamfields!
Autumn saw a return to London for Fashion week and my favourite event of the fashion calendar, Fashion’s Night Out. This is possibly the most fashion-fueled extravaganza that you will ever take part in. Running from one store to another, shopping and socialising – I’m already looking forward to the next one in 2012!
As ambassador for Breast Cancer Awareness charity, Bras for a Cause, I was honoured to be asked to take part in a fashion show alongside fellow bloggers in Dubai in October. This was my second time walking the catwalk this year and I’m just grateful I didn’t fall on my behind as I had butterflies in my stomach right up until the moment I went on! I was so overwhelmed by the support shown to me by my editor Tara Sillery who flew in from Kuwait, Samantha Lian from POSE Magazine, James Young from Caramel and Khadra and Ibrahim from the charitable initiative “Fashion: My Community“. You all know how to make a girl feel very special .
This year’s Halloween celebrations will go down as being the best I have experienced so far. Dubai out did itself this year with parties running over the course of 4 days. By far one of the funniest moment of the weekend had to be my best friend Somaiah directing traffic out of the Nasimi Beach car park with a devil’s pitchfork! I don’t think I’ve seen so many people so confused, yet following her every instruction! Well it’s not every day that Pippy Longstocking takes over the job of the RTA whilst Princess Jasmine is on the floor in tears of laughter!
November was rounded off by an EPIC four-day “vacation” on Yas Island, for the annual Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix. I won’t lie, I didn’t see the main race, but I did watch the qualifiers, but with my brother in town, I just wanted him to have the best holiday possible and I’m pleased to say he really did.
So there you have it. A little snippet of what I did in 2011. Thank you to everyone who was part of my incredible year. I honestly can’t express how overwhelmed I am at times with the love and support I get from my friends, family and all the readers of this blog. You amaze me with your kindness and your support. I really am the luckiest girl in the world.
Happy New Year everyone. See you in 2012. xoxo
