Chanel Paris-Bombay Show

Oh Chanel! You never cease to amaze me! Earlier today, models Anja Rubik and Stella Tennant joined an array of models for the most spectacular show which saw the Grand Palais in Paris transformed into an Indian-themed dinner party for the Chanel Metiers d’Art show. With dinner set for royalty, the models walked the runway sporting the 2012 pre-fall collection, which included opulent jewellery and turbans.

Creative director at Chanel, Karl Lagerfeld often uses countries abroad for inspiration for his collections. In previous years, shows have been named Paris- Byzance, Paris-Shanghai and Paris-Moscow.

Taking inspiration from India, the Paris-Bombay show saw luxury fabrics embroidered with pearls and matte gold and silver detail, Nehru jackets in ivory, sweaters that draped over the shoulder like a sari, classic Indian “churidar” style trousers.

Although I can’t see many of these designs worn at the next Asian wedding I attend, there definitely are a few designs that I have whizzed over to my mum to show her tailor for more inspiration on her next trip to Pakistan. Well done Karl. I salute you!
