Sometimes you meet people in the most random of situations and they go on to change your life. Rewind two years and a night in Chi Dubai. Not one of my usual hangouts, but a massive group of us ended up there for a Wayne Wonder performance. During the course of the night I got a message from London from my friend Nouraldin. He told me to get one of the girls, Golchehr Khalili, someone I’d only met a few days earlier, a drink. Baffled I did what I was told and went up to Golchehr, or Goldie as she is more commonly known, gave her the drink and said “This is from Nouraldin!” Queue a baffled look on her face and then a shocked reply, “You know Nouraldin?!?!” And that was it! The beginning of a friendship that changed the course of my life!
What followed was several nights at Cavalli Lounge and Nasimi and after parties that somehow ended in Mirdiff, but silently a bond was made between Goldie and I that I am so blessed to have. We live two roads apart in London, share tonnes of mutual friends and she is the girl who made Summer 2011 so EPIC for me.
Every weekend started with us getting our nails done together and ended with some sort of delicious dessert at Jaks in South Kensington. We’ve spent so much time there over the past few months, all the staff know us. And so does Ashley Cole! (But that’s a story for another day!)
My catchphrase this entire summer with Goldie was “I’m on One!” And we really were. From working at events together, to nights at Luxx and Tramp or our weekend adventure to Creamfields, we were literally “on one”. It was following one night at Luxx that my new nickname of Pinky was coined and the adventures of Dolly and Pinky were set in motion. We couldn’t go anywhere without someone questioning one of us where the other was.
Now as Goldie enters a new stage of her life, I just want to tell her that I am so happy we met and that her support with Candy & Couture this year has been unparalleled. Afrojack himself commented on our friendship after he saw us party the night away with him a few weeks back. Being told that “we rock” from Afrojack was possibly the best thing to happen that week! And I say week as we’ve had some serious highlights this year from partying in a van (Yeah that happened!) to singing Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” with Yasmin during a DJ Bliss set and getting the whole ladies room to join in with us. Good times!
Dolly, Pinky loves you! Tavolet Mobarak Eshghe man. You are the yin to my yang, the mint to my grape shisha, the custard to my apple crumble and the ONLY person I will hold a six foot box out of a Mercedes sunroof for!
